Application Prompt #1: Share Your Story

Having a big heart is often seen as a noble trait, characterized by kindness, generosity, and a willingness to help others. However, this laudable quality can sometimes lead to being taken advantage of by others.  

One key challenge faced by big hearted individuals is the difficulty in setting boundaries. Our innate desire to assist others can overshadow our ability to say no, which might result in overcommitting to tasks and obligations. For instance, a kind hearted person often finds themselves constantly lending a hand to friends who exploit our helpful nature, thereby overloading our own schedule and causing personal stress or burnout. This also goes for romantic relationships. Oftentimes you will notice big hearted people are the gift giving type. I have heard and personally experienced partners taking advantage of your givingness and it’s hard to realize when someone is using your kindness for their own benefits. 

Another issue is the tendency to trust too easily. This trust can be misplaced when others, recognizing the vulnerability of a benevolent heart, manipulate situations to their advantage. For example, a relationship came my way and my trust and kindness was incredibly taken advantage of. I was targeted through emotional appeals and would often get told if I didn’t buy them something they really wanted then “I didn’t love him.” And like any kind hearted person would, I did what they wanted because I loved them. But is having a big heart really worth all the pain?


Application Prompt #2: Challenging a Belief

A word we hear a lot in today’s world is weakness. But weakness is really just a mindset. Yes, everyone does have a weakness, that is inevitable, but it’s how you try and strengthen it and that shows the type of person you really are.

Many people think that seeking help is a sign of weakness. I believe that this is not a true statement. A lot of my close friends will be struggling in school on certain subjects and won’t reach out for help because they believe that shows weakness. But I think it shows the complete opposite, things such as strength and self awareness. Both essential qualities for personal development. Or maybe seeking help is perceived as “uncool” to others. Some people will seriously care more about their social status than their own personal being and future. This is why I will always tell my friends that popularity in the end doesn’t get you anywhere. Worrying about what others will think will only harm yourself more mentally. 

We should all love our “weaknesses.” Having a weakness should be something that motivates you to become a better version of yourself. A lot of people I have met get in their own heads about their own struggles but what we don’t realize is that everyone is struggling with something. Big or small everyone has a weakness in their life so let's not make communicating and reaching out for help one of them.

Every note, every beat, every lyric has the power to transport me to a place where emotions are heightened, memories are relived, and the world feels a little bit more magical. Music is my sanctuary, my escape, and the soundtrack to my life's journey. When I'm feeling unmotivated or down, I turn to my favorite songs, like BAD TIME and Rock Wit U, which never fail to lift my spirits and reignite my passion for the day ahead.

Music captivates me in a way that nothing else can; it's my go-to source for motivation and a booster for my mood. I find myself immersed in the melodies and rhythms, feeling a deep connection with the emotions conveyed through each song. When I want to learn more about music, I turn to online platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, where I explore new genres and artists. I also enjoy reading articles and watching documentaries that delve into the stories behind the music and what inspired artists to write songs with the lyrics they did. These resources not only broaden my musical horizons but also deepen my appreciation for the art form and puts songs into more perspective when listening. Whether it's discovering a new favorite song or understanding the context of a song, my pursuit of musical knowledge is a continuous journey that enriches my life in countless ways.

1.) What part of writing these papers took the most time?

I think the part that took the longest was the research. Finding sources and correct information was definitely time consuming.

2.) What is the most significant difference between your first draft and your final versions? 

The grammar is better and it's more polished. I start my rough drafts very vague and then my finals are descriptive.

3.) Which is your best paper and why?

I would say my best paper is my Application Prompt #3 because that one was my favorite to write. It was on a topic that hits really close to me and I felt super connected with the writing.

4.) Which essay could still be improved? How and why?

I would say essay #3. I could use more transition words instead of using the same 3 in each paragraph. I feel like it would make it feel less repetitive.

5.) Where do you see the need for growth in your writing?

I would say just using bigger words and making my writing sound more professional.

I think I will start writing once a week just to keep my flow going.
